This is a contest entry for my Senpai, the lovely

WARNING: the story gets a little dark at times. Also, there's a bit of cussing and its REALLY long.

******

'He smiled creepily.
“I'll break you,” he whispered.
She shook her head.
“There's no way you can break me any more,” she said in a soft voice. ”I'm already too far gone.”'

******

(Y/n) gasped and flopped backwards onto her bed, not caring about the fact that her lovely (h/c) hair was being messed up.

In twenty-four hours, her whole life had become even worse, if that was even possible.

The girl checked her watch to see how much time had passed. It read 12:47 pm.

She lifted two pale hands to her face and recalled what had just happened.

First, the girl had figured out that vampires, the creatures described in childish storybooks, were real.

Second, they had no weaknesses whatsoever. They were immune to light and didn't shy away from things like garlic and holy crosses.

Third, she was trapped in a house with seven of them.

Their names were Shu, Reiji, Laito, Kanato, Ayato, Subaru and the latest addition: Yui.

Although (y/n) hadn't really talked to them that much, she knew she was in trouble. More trouble than usual, anyways.

She had been so happy when the taxi car had pulled over to the large gate that surrounded an even larger house. The girl was thinking that she would finally get away from her family for good, that these people were to care for her.

Her first steps into the everlasting darkness that awaited her inside the house had been so unknowing, so ignorant. (Y/n) had called out 'hello?' a few times before someone had come up to her.

The tall stern-looking man that had found her had introduced himself as Reiji and had invited the girl to follow him somewhat warmly. Then, she had watched, fascinated but scared, as five more vampires appeared out of thin air and each licked her cheek or neck. The last and newest vampire, Yui, walked in a few seconds later, not bothering to touch (y/n).

(Y/n)'s heart had sunk and sunk as the Sakamakis (and Yui) informed her of her situation; being the next prospective bride.

“Don't try and leave,” Ayato had warned her. “If you step foot out of this house's terrain, we will kill you.”

Kanato had laughed as if this was the funniest joke he had ever heard. Laito had smirked and winked at (y/n). Ayato had continued smiling evilly. Shu, Subaru and Reiji had no emotion whatsoever. (Y/n) had been in a state of disbelief, not only because she now was surrounded by vampires, but that Yui, one of their members, looked empathetic. As if she knew how it felt. As if she had been in that situation before.

After that, (y/n) had stood and tried to walk away calmly, tugging at the entrance doors that were now locked.

Then, one thing had led to another, and the girl had blacked out, waking up some time later in a luxuriously cushioned king sized bed.

(Y/n) looked down at her outfit and realized that she wasn't wearing the clothes she had originally worn to the home in order to impress the owners. Now, a satin pink robe covered her torso and half of her legs, sleeves barely covering her shoulders. A puffy old fashioned crimson bow adorned her neck and there were little frills on the hem of her pyjamas.

The girl gagged in disgust; she never was one to wear dresses. Even if she had the chance to, with her shitty family, she wouldn't have worn one.

“You don't seem very pleased,” came Laito's flirty voice from a patch of darkness in the corner of the gigantic room where (y/n) sat.

“Why would I be?” snapped (y/n). “Give me one good reason.”

Laito chuckled.

“You are very daunting for a mere mortal, Bitch-Chan,” laughed Laito. “Nevertheless, I find your bravery very appealing.”

(Y/n) shot him a glare. He ignored it and sat next to her on the huge bed, with that signature smirk of his. She moved as far away as she could from him, without falling off the edge of the bed.

“Why are you shying away from me, Bitch-Chan?” purred Laito, scooting over to where the girl was perched.

“Don't take it personally, but I'd rather not get raped by a bloodsucking asshole,” said (y/n) quite rudely, standing up.

Laito laughed darkly.

She insulted him again, but this time, she slapped his face sharply.

“You will pay for that,” said Laito, menace evident in his sly voice. “Mortals are not to abuse their superiors.”

(Y/n) could only scoot away in a fright she didn't show as Laito's now frowning and intimidating figure loomed over her.

“Nowhere to run, Little Bitch,” he said with a devilish smirk.

She kept her face in a frown, determined not to give this demon the satisfaction of seeing her submit to him, of seeing her scared. He just chuckled and kept walking toward (y/n) until he trapped her in a corner.

“I'll make this feel good,” he said, snaking an arm around her waist and removing the hair from her neck. (Y/n) tried prying him off without success.

“Or maybe,” he added, chuckling at himself. “Maybe I won't.”

Laito's fangs latched onto her neck. She let out a small whimper.

“Stop,” she said weakly.

He ignored her, bringing her body closer to his and continuing to remove her blood.

“Stop!” (y/n) said with all the strength she could muster.

Laito met her eyes and the strangest thing happened.

He seemed confused.

But the vampire threw his feelings away. He kept drinking (y/n)'s delicious blood.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

To (y/n), it seemed like hours before Laito let her go.

“Don't ever dare to hit me again, Bitch-Chan,” he said. “You can call me names, it's cute. But don't abuse your superiors. Remember that.”

She rolled her eyes as he disappeared.

A few minutes later, Reiji knocked on (y/n)'s door and handed her a school uniform, ordering her to put it on and to come downstairs when she was ready.

When the girl had asked why, Reiji had called her 'idiotic' and told her that they couldn't have her active during school, how her human instincts would kick in, and so on.

So, (y/n) was now attending Night School along with everyone else in the Sakamaki residence.

Shockingly, she, Yui, Ayato, Laito, Kanato, Shu, Reiji and Subaru weren't the only people at the school. There were many other creatures of the night that attended the educational building as well. Werewolves, witches, you name it.

(Y/n) had no such luck in finding a fellow human though. Everyone in the school was odd in her eyes.

The classes were the same as at a human school for (y/n). Her classes were in the order of Math, English, Chemistry, Geography and finally Art. Although the teachers weren't entirely sane, the girl definitely liked school better than being kept as a prisoner in that awful mansion.

Evidently, (y/n) was reluctant to leave the building and return to her so-called 'home'.

The girl was given exactly two hours to do anything she liked (as long as it didn't involve leaving the house or vandalizing or anything bad like that), but at this point she didn't want to get cornered by Laito again. Nor did she want any of his brothers to attack her either.

That being said, (y/n) just sat on her bed for that time, doodling on a scrap of paper she had sneaked out of Art Class, praying that the Vampires would stay away from her.

Time passed and the sun began to rise, giving (y/n) the thought of escape. Maybe she could jump out the window and run away while the vampires slept? Or just call 9-1-1?

Her plans were proved hopeless when (y/n) checked out the window and realized that the drop would kill her, and remembered that her phone had been taken away when she had first arrived.

She decided to think about freedom later, for exhaustion was catching up with her.

(Y/n) buried herself in the warmth of the soft bed blankets and quickly fell asleep.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

"Are you going to Scarborough Fair?"

The first few words of a melody awoke (y/n) from her dreamless state of sleep. A confused expression crossed her tired face. Who was singing this?

Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,"

Curiosity got the better of the girl and she stood up, wooden floor creaking beneath her bare feet.

Remember me, to one who lives there,"

It was eerily beautiful, in (y/n)'s opinion. She followed her ears down the hallway and through a room with a few chairs in it and found someoone sitting on the edge of a railing of a particularly large balcony.

"She once was a true love of mine,"

(Y/n)'s eyes focused on the short figure and she realized it was the teddy-obsessed Vampire, Kanato. He was hugging his teddy closely to his chest as the melodious words left his mouth.

"Tell her to make me a cambric shirt,"

Thinking that it would be a shame if he was to stop singing, (y/n) stayed a safe distance away from the vampire and kept listening.

Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,”

Kanato cast a glance in the direction of the door, and (y/n)'s heart skipped a beat in fright. Luckily, he turned his head back to the sky and continued singing, as (y/n) thanked the Lord for sparing her.

Without no seam nor needlework,"

(Y/n) made sure her body was completely hidden in the shadows near the balcony door so she wouldn't come close to getting caught again.

Then she'll be a true love of mine.”

She let out a small yawn. This song was certainly relaxing.

“I know you're there, (y/n),” said Kanato, almost causing the poor girl to fall over in shock.

“Come out here, you have nothing to fear,” added Kanato.

Since (y/n) thought that she didn't have that much of a choice, she stood up slowly and walked reluctantly next to where Kanato sat.

“Do you really like my voice that much?” he questionned.

“N-no, I-”

“Go ahead, deny it,” said Kanato, cutting (y/n) off, much to the girl's annoyance. “It's cute.”

(Y/n) couldn't come up with anything else to say, retort or other, so she kept her mouth shut.

“Can you sing?” interrogated Kanato.

She said nothing, hoping that he would pass on to something else.

“You know, when I ask you a question, I expect an immediate answer,” stated a increasingly frustrated Kanato.

“Sorry...” muttered (y/n), not sounding or feeling sorry at all.

“Why do you bother apologizing if you don't mean it?” asked Kanato, with an angry tone this time. His grip on Teddy tightened and he rotated so his current sitting position would face (y/n).

She didn't flinch or move a muscle.

“I'm waiting,” sing-songed Kanato, frown turning into a smile as he increased the tension between him and Teddy.

“For what?” asked (y/n), although she already knew the answer. His eyes narrowed and his protective arms around Teddy stiffened further.

“You know what! Answer me, you stupid mortal!” screeched Kanato angrily, setting Teddy gently down by his side and whispering a few words under his breath.

His feet touched the ground and he stomped loudly toward the girl. She inched back until she bumped into the door that had been somehow closed. (Y/n) put up a hand in attempt to shield her face, only to be grabbed and pinned to the wall by Kanato. He lowered his face to her neck.

“Answer me, or I bite,” whispered Kanato menacingly, giggles escaping his mouth.

She bit her lip nervously. It was a lose-lose situation either way. If she told him she didn't sing, he would ask her to prove it. If she said that she did, he would ask her to do so. Even if she kept her mouth shut, Kanato would end up biting her.

“Yes,” she mumbled in defeat.

“I can't hear you,” sung Kanato.

She huffed in annoyance.

“Yes!” she yelled, perhaps a tad too loudly, considering that his hands flew up to shield his ears.

“Please quiet down a little,” said Kanato, rubbing the insides of his vampiric ears. “We dwellers of the night have a particularly sensitive hearing.”

Another huff from (y/n).

“If you had super-sensitive hearing, then you would have heard me the first time!” she retorted.

Kanato became angry again and his grip on (y/n)'s wrist tightened, sending a jolt of crushing pain through the girl's body.

“Stop talking back at me, mortal!” said an angered Kanato. “Now, let me suck your blood.”

Her figure stiffened and she desperately tried to free herself from his grasp.

“Oh look, it's so cute,” cooed Kanato, giggling evilly. “You think you have an escape!”

(Y/n) shot him a nasty glare.

“Go ahead, keep trying,” said Kanato, odd smile growing bigger. “Keep trying and failing like the pathetic mortal you are!”

He laughed like it was the funniest joke he had ever heard, as she stopped prying herself away.

After a few minutes, Kanato neared his mouth to her neck, taking a big sniff as he did so.

“You smell delicious,” breathed the vampire as (y/n) braced herself for the pain that she couldn't escape this time.

As predicted, his pearly white fangs sank into her soft flesh, making her whimper softly.

Although it was far from being enjoyed by (y/n), the feeling of when a vampire sucked your blood was... somewhat unique. Initially, it would feel like getting a shot or vaccine, except with a bigger ’needle’. Then, an uncomfortable sensation would join the pain; as if the ’needle’ was sucking up your blood before being removed by the nurse. However, unlike needles, this could legitimately kill you.

That being said, it wasn't like anything the girl had experienced before, in a bad way.

“Stop it,” she said firmly, using her one free arm to try and push Kanato off her unsuccessfully.

He ignored her and swallowed more blood.

“Stop it!” yelled (y/n) after gathering her strength.

For once, Kanato did as told, fangs leaving her irritated neck. He looked almost in awe that she had dared to talk to him like that. Or maybe he wasn't used to girls that fought back. Perhaps both.

A few seconds passed before either of them talked again.

“Alright then,” said Kanato, smiling creepily and wiping a streak of her blood away from his mouth. “I guess that's enough for today.”

She exhaled sharply in indignity and insult as Kanato walked over to where he had set down Teddy.

“Goodbye, for now,” he said eerily.

(Y/n) blinked once and Kanato and Teddy were gone.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

He sang every night. Sometimes he cried. It kept her awake.

Although (y/n) no longer wanted to be anywhere near Kanato, singing or not, she still subconsciously listened to his lovely eerie voice or tears as they echoed throughout the Sakamaki residence’s walls. And she hated herself for it.

She didn't quite understand why he cried so often. She didn't really care either.

In only two weeks the girl had been bitten by every single vampire in the mansion except Yui. For some reason, Yui never seemed to be around. The only times (y/n) saw her were at school and during meals which the whole ’family’ attended every now and then. And throughout every one of those few times, the female was close to Ayato’s side, him putting a protective arm around her constantly.

It was quite odd, in (y/n)’s opinion, but she decided not to question it. The last thing she needed here was more trouble.

Her days were still exactly the same. (Y/n) woke up at 7:30 pm, got dressed in the old fashioned uniform that was always washed for the next day, bore the drive to school with the Sakamakis and Yui, went to morning classes, ate lunch alone, went to afternoon classes, ignored the brothers and Yui on the drive home, made a beeline for her room, sometimes got bitten, did her homework and then went to bed, even though she had insomnia these days.

The brothers usually behaved somewhat normally around her, but (y/n) began to notice changes one day. Laito wasn't acting as flirty. Ayato kept his distance. Subaru wasn't as ticked as usual. Shu actually showed a confused emotion around her. Reiji spent his days in his laboratory. Only Yui remained the same; she kept ignoring (y/n) as much as (y/n) ignored her.

The girl was happy, most of the brothers hardly bit her at all now days, but a part of her longed for company. Sane company. Company that didn't want to mess with her feelings and sanity. Thus, in a (very) desperate attempt to at least have someone to relate to, to talk to without being at risk of loosing blood, (y/n) decided to pay Yui a visit.

Even though (y/n) knew very well where the room in which Yui slept was located, she couldn't bring herself to knock on its door; doubts clouded her mind and she couldn't think straight. Questions such as 'What if she just wants my blood like everyone else?' or What if there's a reason that she kept her distance from me in the first place?' kept blocking her thoughts as she finally mustered the courage to pick herself up and make her way to the room down the hall where Yui was most likely located.

However, her hand paused before it hit the neatly polished wooden door as two voices could be heard behind it.

(Y/n) gently pressed her ear to the smooth surface and listened eagerly.

“...a bitch,” a masculine voice (y/n) recognized as Ayato's finished.

“She can't be that bad,” argued a feminine voice, undoubtedly Yui's.

“You wanna bet?” asked Ayato. “She fights back! She even slapped Laito!”

“At least one of the previous brides had to be like that.”

(Y/n) gulped, face pale. What did she mean by previous brides? If there were any, where were they now?

“No,” said Ayato firmly. “Blood loss would drain their strength and they would be helpless. Trust me, she's not an ordinary human.”

Silence burned (y/n)'s ears for a few minutes.

“If she's not human nor vampire,” asked Yui softly. “Then what is she?”

“I don't know,” snapped Ayato. “Go ask Reiji. He's noticed too. That's why he's spending all his free time in the lab.”

Angry stomps told (y/n) that Ayato was coming back to the door. She froze for a second then ran silently down the hallway and hid in her bedroom until she was absolutely sure that Ayato had left Yui's room.

She creeped out of her room after checking both ways of the hall for vampires, fortunately spotting none. (Y/n) carefully walked on her toes to Yui's room, cringing every time the old floor creaked beneath her feet.

Again, her hand hovered over the door when once again, she heard noises. Though, this time, there wasn't two voices arguing. Only one soft feminine voice could be heard, and it wasn't talking, it was sobbing.

(Y/n) steeled her nerves and knocked gently on the wooden door that separated her from Yui, her courage feeding on the thought of how consoling Yui might give (y/n) some kind of friend.

“Fuck off!” yelled Yui's sad voice.

“I'm here to help,” said (y/n) in her softest and sweetest tone. “It's (y/n), remember?”

A quiet minute indicated to the girl that Yui was thinking the whole offer over.

“Fine,” Yui sniffed sadly. “But nobody else can come in!”

Secretly happy that her plans were working so far, (y/n) twisted the golden doorknob slowly and opened the door just wide enough for her slim figure to fit through. A sad sight greeted (y/n); Yui was crying as she lay in a ball on her bed, blood red roses were smashed on the ground by the base of her bed.

“A-are you alright?” asked (y/n), rather stupidly. It was clear that Yui was far from alright.

“What the hell does it look like?” snapped Yui, rolling her teary eyes.

“Y-yeah, I guess you're n-not,” said (y/n). “That was a stupid question. I'm sorry.”

Yui smiled softly in agreement.

“I'm sorry too,” said Yui, smile still apparent on her pretty face. “I'm not usually this mad at people. Ayato just pisses me off sometimes.”

“Doesn't he do that to everyone?” (y/n) said with a smirk.

Yui actually laughed, much to (y/n)'s shock.

“I don't know why he calls you a bitch,” said Yui, wiping the tears away from her face. “You're a great person, far better than him.”

(Y/n) blushed softly at the unusual compliment. “Thanks,” she said.

“No problem,” said Yui. “So, why did you come here?”

(Y/n) thought of the proper way to tell her for a few seconds.

“Well, there's a few things I'd like to ask you,” began (y/n).

“Shoot,” said Yui with a small nod.

“First of all, why have you been avoiding me all this time?” questioned (y/n).

Yui froze, as if this subject reminded her of something bad.

“Ayato,” she whispered. “Ayato is overprotective. Although he won't admit it, he loves me, and doesn't let anyone else, not even his brothers, get near me. Which reminds me, you should never talk to me when he's around.”

Yui gestured for (y/n) to sit next to her on the luxurious bed that looked much like her own.

“So,” concluded (y/n). “You don't hate me, after all.”

“Anything else?” asked Yui.

“Yeah,” said (y/n). “Why don't you want to suck my blood like everyone else?”

“Well,” began Yui. “Don't get me wrong, I am very tempted by your scent, since your blood is of one of the finest quality. However, I have no wish in killing humans. This must be because there's probably a bit of human left in me.”

“So,” continued (y/n). “What do you drink instead of blood?”

Yui laughed a little.

“I don't really need to drink blood to survive,” said Yui with a smirk. “I'm still partly human, you know. Plus, if I really wanted blood, I could just bite Ayato. He likes it.”

(Y/n) smiled back at Yui and realized that there was one more thing that she needed to ask.

“Yui,” said (y/n). “How did you become half-vampire? Was your mom a vampire and your dad a human? Or...”

Yui looked at (y/n) sadly and something clicked in her mind.

“You were the previous prospective bride,” guessed (y/n).

Yui nodded softly.

“The venom from the vampire bites started the Awakening, a process that no human vessel has ever endured before,” informed Yui. “But, since I had a vampire’s heart inside of me along with my own, I was able to survive and to become a half-vampire.”

“Will that happen to me, too?” asked (y/n) softly.

Yui stayed silent, lips pressed together into a thin line.

“No heart will join yours,” mumbled Yui. “I was the only exception. Usually, the brides are... killed before the awakening begins...”

(Y/n) suddenly became aware of her own breath pace, in, out, in, out. Her heartbeat echoed in her skull and it’s pace increased as well. She stood and burst out of the room, not bothering to say goodbye to Yui. Her legs kept pushing her forward, forward to a place she didn't even pay attention.

She was in the garden, white roses were scattered everywhere. Silent and scared tears followed her as she kept running. (Y/n) spotted Subaru's figure on the other side of the garden, and ran in a different direction.

Around ten minutes later, (y/n) reached the gate that sealed away the Sakamaki residence. Her shivering hands grabbed the poles and gave them a desperate tug.

When she realized there was no escape from this hell, she sank slowly to the floor with her head in her hands, one question repeating itself over and over.

’What did I ever do to deserve this shitty life?’

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Hey.”

“Wake up.”

Someone was shaking her shoulders. (Y/n) ignored the person and hoped that he would go away.

“Wake up, (y/n).”

She opened one eye gently, then closed it again.

“Come on. Teddy wants you to come with us.”

Both of (y/n)’s eyes fluttered open to see Kanato kneeling in front of her, Teddy close to his chest as usual.

“Oh, good,” he said. “You're awake. Now I can see the scared look on your face again.”

She groaned and stood up painfully, body complaining about the awkward position (y/n) had fallen asleep in earlier.

“What do you want, Kanato?” asked (y/n), rubbing her eyes. He smiled eerily again.

“Come with me,” he said. Then he switched his violet eyes away from (y/n)'s (e/c) ones and toward Teddy. “It will be fun, right, Teddy?”

Most reluctantly, (y/n) followed Kanato to a cemetery.

“I love graves. So indifferent to fear. So dead and quiet,” said Kanato, observing the scenery around himself.

“T-they're alright,” said (y/n).

“I come here all the time,” said Kanato, completely ignoring her remark. “Do you?”

“Not really,” mumbled (y/n). There weren't any cemeteries where I lived. But yeah, I like it here. Nice and quiet.”

Kanato turned to face her and smiled.

“I'm glad you do,” he said.

He kept pacing around and muttering incomprehensible words to Teddy for the next half hour, (y/n) following him unwillingly, wishing that she could go home. Not to the mansion, but home. With her shitty family. Because even that would be better than here. Then again, maybe not.

“What's your story?” asked Kanato all of the sudden.

“What's yours?” said (y/n), hoping to dodge the question.

“I don't think that you'd like to hear it,” he said, after mumbling something else to Teddy. “Its a pretty scary and sad one.”

“So is mine,” informed (y/n).

“I'd still like to hear it,” said Kanato, a hint of menace in his tone.

(Y/n) sighed in defeat, but said nothing.

“Must we do this every time?” asked Kanato with a sigh.

He set down Teddy and began walking toward (y/n). She prayed to the Lord that this wasn't happening again.

In the blink of an eye, Kanato had pinned (y/n) to the ground and licked her cheek.

He smiled creepily.

“I'll break you,” he whispered.

She shook her head.

“There's no way you can break me any more,” she said in a soft voice. “I'm already too far gone.”

He frowned slightly, but latched his fangs onto her neck nonetheless.

“Stop, for fuck's sake!” she yelled, pressing her hands to his chest in attempt of getting him off her.

Kanato stopped, but didn't get off of (y/n). He looked confused for a few seconds, then regained his eerie smile.

“What do you want, a kiss?” asked Kanato. “Do mortal women need a kiss before everything? You're so complicated.”

Before she could protest, Kanato’s cold lips were on her warm human ones in a sweet kiss that she would have melted into if she didn't know better. She blushed Crimson for a reason she ignored.

Once he pulled away, Kanato bit (y/n)'s shoulder and kept sucking even more blood.

She rolled her eyes and thought about how useful super strength would be in is situation.

Just when she was about to faint from blood loss, (y/n) felt a surge of strength so great that lifting a mountain was possible. Her arms strained from the effort, but eventually, she was able to not only push Kanato off her body, but actually throw him across the cemetery.

Her hand flew to her mouth as she watched a shocked Kanato fly across the graveyard and land with a crash on a particularly large tombstone.

“Holy shit!” she said in awe, looking down at her arms, finding that they looked exactly the same as they usually did.

(Y/n) ran over to Kanato, finding him out cold on a now destroyed tombstone. She shook him a few times before realizing that there was nobody watching her, and that maybe, just maybe, she had an escape.

The girl knew she could be freed right here and now. But, a part of her told her not to run. A part of her kept nagging her, pressuring her to ’do the right thing’ and bring Kanato back to the mansion, to make sure he's safe, to sacrifice her chance at freedom for someone that might survive on his own. A part of her told her that she actually cared for the seemingly heartless vampire.

Boy, did she ever hate that part.

(Y/n) grabbed Kanato's ankle with one hand and Teddy with the other. Then, she dragged him all the way back to the mansion, thinking that Teddy oddly reeked of ashes.

Once she arrived, a knock on the door summoned Reiji.

“What happened to him?” asked Reiji, looking more shocked than ever.

(Y/n) gulped. She really should have thought this through. There was no way in hell that she was telling Reiji about her sudden strength burst, she didn't want to become a lab experiment for him. But what other excuse was there?

“He tripped,” said (y/n) in the most convincing tone she could perform. “He tripped and hit his head on a tombstone.”

At least it was somewhat truthful.

Although Reiji didn't seem entirely convinced, he allowed this one to pass. (Y/n) was thanked and was left alone in the house as Reiji took both Kanato and Teddy to the poor boy's room.

She went to her own room and realization dawned on her.

Somehow, in all of this hell-like chaos, she had begun to fall in love with a vampire.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

She kept her distance from him nowadays.

It wasn't because she was scared. If anyone was to be scared, it would be Kanato, not her.

(Y/n) kept her distance in hope of erasing the newly found feelings she had developed for the vampire.

“(Y/n), it's quite rude to space out during a family supper,” scolded Reiji, interrupting (y/n)'s current train of thoughts.

“Sorry,” she muttered.

The 'family' supper was occurring as usual, with Laito constantly winking at (y/n), Kanato stabbing his food and laughing evilly, Subaru looking like he wanted to murder someone, and so on.

(Y/n) was trying to finish her food as quickly as possible, wanting to go back to her room. She was avoiding everyone by this point; Kanato for her feelings, Yui for her sanity, all the rest for her health. So she rather unmannerly shoved the beef and salad into her mouth, much to Reiji’s disgust.

Reiji opened his mouth to say something, but (y/n) finished his sentence for him.

“I know it's unmannerly,” she said, mocking his voice.

He closed it, a scowl painted on his face.

(Y/n) was the first to leave the table, and, fortunately, nobody followed her. Or sl she thought.

She had barely gotten back to the cemetery when a voice almost gave her a heart attack.

“Why are you running?” asked the voice.

(Y/n) spun around to see Kanato, the bags under his eyes more definite under the dim light.

“I-I,” she couldn't find a good excuse, but made one up nonetheless. “I needed some peace and quiet.”

“You're a terrible liar,” tut-tutted Kanato, giggling.

She sighed.

“Why did you follow me here?” she asked, suddenly suspicious of his intentions.

He giggled again.

“I like being here with you,” he said with a scary smile.

She ignored his emotions and prayed that the heat in her cheeks wasn't a blush.

An awkward silence hovered in the atmosphere until Kanato spoke up once more.

“What's your story?” he asked a second time.

“W-Why do you care?” questioned (y/n).

“Because,” said Kanato simply.

She sighed.

“I'll tell you what,” she said, finally making a decision. “I'll tell you my story if you tell me yours.”

“Done,” said Kanato, not even a second after (y/n) finished her compromising sentence. “You first.”

(Y/n) took a deep breath and let herself fall into the deep darkness of her past.

“I was only 5 years old when it happened,” began (y/n), shuddering slightly.
“One night, after my mother had tucked me into bed, someone came into our home. I thought it was my grandpa, who had a tendency to wander into our home randomly. But, I soon realized that it wasn't my grandpa, nor anyone I should be happy to see.
“It was a tall man, clothed entirely in black. Every part of his body was covered. Even his eyes.
“My mom had run at full speed into my room and picked me up, my dad waking my sister who slept on a bed next to mine. Then, she had mumbled something that sounded like “Why now? It's so early, she's just a kid...” and jumped out through the room window with me in her arms since the stranger was downstairs.
“We heard gunshots. A scream from my sister. A despaired yell from my father. I didn't need to see anything else to know that she was dead and that the man had gotten upstairs.
“I then realized that my mom had been knocked out by the impact of the fall, and a sad feeling overcame my body. I was cold in the snow without a coat, my sister had just been shot, who knew if my parents were alive.
“I started crying and calling for my dad. He didn't answer, but I could hear him sobbing over my sister’s lifeless body upstairs. I wondered why the man hadn't killed him yet.
“Then, after what seemed like forever, my dad jumped out the window and more gunshots were heard, none hitting him. He grabbed my mom, cast one heartbroken look back at the house, told me to follow him and began running.
“We ran and ran until my legs could take it no more. And then we kept running until a hospital came into view.
“They were barely able to save my mom, but she was alive. Although my life might’ve been better if she was dead.
“Afterwards, we moved far away from the old home and bought a new one. It all seemed fine until we realized that maybe my mom hadn't recovered at all.
“She started abusing my father both physically and mentally. I could hear their screams every night. So my father moved out, leaving me behind with the monster I no longer called my mother.
“It turns out that her brain went crazy when she fell headfirst out of that window, and that she was very unstable. So I stayed out of her way.
“That didn't stop her, though. After my dad left, she had no one else to take her anger out on, so she pinned the whole thing on me.
“But I became stronger through those years of endless hell. My skin became thicker. I no longer let the words and pain get to me. My mother, too, realized that, and basically killed herself afterwards.
“I didn't care about her anymore anyways. So I spent a few years wandering around, taking small jobs, sleeping at crappy hotels, hardly eating at all, until the man struck again.
“He looked exactly the same as I remembered him. Black everything, tall slim figure. Before I could run, however, he told me that my uncle had asked him to give me his address, and to offer me a taxi to my uncle’s home.
“Of course, I didn't believe him. But the next thing I knew, he had hit me on the head and sent me onto a taxi, leaving a note that said: To (y/n): You're on your way to my home. Don't worry, you'll be safe there. Love, uncle (l/n).
“I didn't realize the whole thing was a fake until later on, but by then it was too late. I was already trapped.”

When (y/n) finished, Kanato actually looked sad.

“You're right,” he said after a few moments. “It is a sad story.”

She shrugged.

“Well, a deal is a deal,” he said. “Now I'll tell you my story.”

And he did.

During his storytelling, (y/n) realized that maybe, just maybe, Kanato was as broken as she was.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

From that day on, he followed her everywhere. Snapped at anyone who annoyed her. Threatened to brutally murder his brothers when they wanted to suck her blood.

She didn't understand. Was he becoming selfish? Did he want to finish her off himself?

(Y/n) could feel her feelings growing toward him, and there was no way to stop them, since Kanato was always by her side, even when she slept.

As they both lay on her bed, Kanato let out a low snore as his grip on (y/n) tightened and he muttered something she couldn't decode.

“Kanato,” she gasped. “Loosen your grip. I can't breathe.”

He ignored her, so she pushed on his arms and finally managed to free herself.

Glancing at the clock, the girl realized that it was almost time for school. She gave the sleeping vampire a sharp prob in the stomach with her elbow and informed him about the situation.

“But I don't wanna go to school,” whined Kanato.

“Well, I do,” argued (y/n). “So if you want to keep your position as my stalker, get your ass up.”

“You know,” he informed with a giggle. “If you didn't mean so much to me, you'd already be a part of my bridal wax museum.”

She looked at him with wide eyes, then shook off his words. Kanato was just messing with her feelings, like usual. Right?

He propped himself up one one elbow as she stood.

“Get out,” she said. “I need to change.”

“So do I,” said Kanato. “Why don't we change together? Teddy can join us, too!”

(Y/n)’s ears went red and she shook her head quickly.

After her old-fashioned uniform had been slipped on and adjusted perfectly, (y/n) headed out the door, Kanato shadowing her and following her every footstep, casting excessively threatening looks to every brother that passed.

When they got into the car, (y/n) sat next to Yui, only to be moved away rather roughly by both Ayato and Kanato.

“Kanato,” she had warned once the exited the vehicle. “You can't just keep me from having any contact with anyone.”

“Of course I can,” argued Kanato. “I'm superhuman. Plus, I'm the only one you'll ever need.”

(Y/n) had decided to let this one drop. For now, anyways.

Fortunately, Kanato didn't have first period with her, so she got a break. Sadly, Reiji was also in that class and constantly found new opportunities to criticize (y/n), wether it was on her writing on her general attitude in class.

And worse, it didn't stop after class. Reiji also had second period with her, and he made sure to take the seat right next to her during it. Oddly enough, he kept staring at her, almost as if he were thinking about how to make sense of something.

Then, around six minutes before second ended, Reiji looked as if he was a kid who learned how to count, as if he had finally figured whatever-it-was out.

And (y/n) was right about the link between his realization and her, because the second she stepped outside, Reiji had taken her arm and pulled her into an empty classroom, much to her shock and annoyance.

“Let me go! What the hell do you want?” cried (y/n) struggling to free herself from his iron grip.

“Know your place, mortal,” threatened Reiji through gritted teeth.

She ignored him and kept squirming.

“Did you even hear what I just said?” asked Reiji.

“For fucks sake! Let me go!” yelled (y/n). “I have to get to class!”

“You're not going anywhere until I figure out what you are,” informed Reiji, making her heart stop.

“What do you mean?” she asked. “I'm a human!”

He huffed in annoyance.

“You know what I mean,” said Reiji. “And I know for certain that Kanato didn't trip and hit his head that night.”

She gulped but kept a straight face nonetheless, determined not to give Reiji the satisfaction of seeing her frightened.

He adjusted his gloved and reached into his pocket, then pulled out a small vile from it.

“Drink,” he said, holding it out to (y/n).

She shook her head and pushed his hand away, earning an irritated sigh in return.

“Must I make you do everything?” asked Reiji, taking her wrist and shoving the vile into her hand. “Drink it.”

“I will only drink if you tell me what it is,” said (y/n).

He sighed again.

“Why must you know everything?” he said irritably. “Mortals are such a pain.”

(Y/n) raised an eyebrow as she awaited his answer.

“It is an x-Ray potion I made myself,” informed Reiji. “Drink, and I'll be able to see if you're human after all.”

Her eyes widened. An x-Ray potion? Was that even possible? And when would it wear off?

“It will wear off in around ten minutes,” said Reiji, as if he had read her mind.

His eyes narrowed to slits. “Drink,” he said menacingly.

Since she didn't have much of a choice, the girl twisted the cap off the small vile and drank the whole contents in one big gulp. Gagging, for the substance didn't taste very delicious, (y/n) looked down at her body and almost fainted.

She no longer saw the annoyingly large pink bow that decorated her uniform, nor any other piece of clothing. When (y/n) looked down, she could see bones, muscles, veins, arteries, organs, you name it.

But there was one thing that (y/n) didn't recognize. It wasn't in any of the posters entitled ’The Human Body’ that her science teacher hung up everywhere. Although it looks much like a vein, the thing was too bright and too orange to be one.

It was almost as if the ’vein’ was glowing in the dark. An orange liquid flowed through it as a few bubbles followed.

Reiji was even more shocked than she was. His eyes were steady and fascinated, quickly and sharply observing every inch of the Orange ’vein’.

“Incredible,” he said, not sounding sarcastic for once.

“What's incredible? What am I? What is this orange shit?” asked (y/n), not able to choose which question to go with.

“This,” said Reiji sharply, pointing to one of the largest orange veins, clearly not approving of her language. “This is a non-human blood type. This is a particularly delicious flavour to us vampires, a quickly reproducing blood cell system. This is supernatural blood. Almost elemental. I've never seen anything like this in real life before...”

(Y/n) gasped. Although this realization explained some things like how she had never fainted of blood loss and how she had pushed- no, thrown- Kanato across the graveyard the other night, it also added more questions to the pile. Questions such as ’How the hell did I become supernatural?’ and ’What if the man in black had something to do with this?’ filled her thoughts as the potion's effects wore off.

It was too much to take.

(Y/n) ran out of the classroom before Reiji could stop her.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

She spent the rest of the day in the cemetery, not bothering to show up for any of her classes.

It wasn't because she was afraid of herself or something like that. If anything, (y/n) wanted to know more about her powers and test them out. So, there she was, awkwardly pointing at trees and hoping that their roots would suddenly obey her every command like in the movies without success.

“Maybe I'm doing this wrong...” she mumbled.

She tried again with the roots, but this she pressed her hand to the tree’s core and thought really hard about the roots obeying her commands.

Nothing happened and (y/n) began feeling increasingly discouraged.

“Maybe Reiji was bluffing,” she said sadly, secretly hoping that she was wrong.. “Maybe I'm not elemental after all...”

He had said almost elemental, anyways. Maybe she was just supernatural. But the only supernatural thing that had happened to her was when she sent Kanato flying across the graveyard. Plus, if she really was supernatural, then why couldn't she open the gates that blocked off the mansion from the rest of the world?

“(Y/n)?” called a distant voice.

(Y/n) froze in place and said nothing, not recognizing the voice at all.

“Come out, I know you're there,” said the voice, deep tone giving (y/n) shivers.

“Who's there?” she called bravely into the darkness.

Increasingly rapid crunching of brambles informed (y/n) that whoever-that-was was running in her direction.

His shadow appeared in front of her. It was the man that killed her sister, that sent her on the taxi.

That was here to kill her, possibly.

“Hello,” the man said. She could tell he was smiling, even though he wore a mask.

“What do you want?” asked (y/n) warily.

He laughed darkly.

“I assume you're aware of your true self now?” said the man, taking a step in her direction, completely ignoring her question.

“What do you want from me?” asked (y/n) again.

The man’s laugh grew eerier. (Y/n) shuddered slightly.

“You know what flows through your veins,” he said, almost as if he had watched her and Reiji. “But do you know what that special blood does?”

She said nothing and increased the definition of her frown.

“As I thought,” the man chuckled.

“I'll ask one more time,” said (y/n) sternly. “What the hell do you want from me?”

The man walked toward (y/n) until they were so close that she could smell the odd rotting scent emitting from him.

“This substance,” he said, grabbing her arm rather roughly and pointing to a pale orange vein that could be seen through her skin. “Is not only quick at reproducing itself. It also has powers, such as super strength, sensitive hearing, extremely powerful smell, you name it. The cells there enhance the senses and give you the superhuman powers.”

“But,” the man said, as (y/n) freed her arm from his grasp. “There's more. So much more. It's all in your DNA.”

“What do you mean, in my DNA? Is it some kind of family thing?” asked (y/n), forgetting that she was talking to the man that killed her sister and destroyed her family in the excitement and anxiety of learning more about the phenomenon that flowed through her body.

“Exactly a family thing,” confirmed the man, looking at her through his mask as if she were the most delicious meal ever. “Every three hundred years, your family produces a child with this blood.”

“You still haven't answered my question,” snapped (y/n), taking a step away from the man and his disgustingly rotten smell. “Why the hell do you want to kill me?”

The man chuckled darkly again.

“Your blood does more than enhance your senses,” said the man, grabbing her arm once more and giving it a sniff. “It gives a three hundred year immortality to whomever drinks it.”

He licked her wrist. She smacked his face.

“I've caught and killed each and every one of your previous superhuman ancestors,” said the man, laughing evilly as she stepped back even more. “Now it's your turn.”

He took a knife out of his coat pocket. She tripped over a grave and became increasingly sure of her demise.

“Goodbye,” he said, raising the knife. “Mortal.”

She closed her eyes and awaited for impact, thinking ’This is it.’

None came.

The only sound that reached (y/n)’s ears was an animalistic growl and a painful scream as someone attacked the man ruthlessly.

She kept her eyes squeezed shut as a ripping sound ended the screams.

“(Y)-(Y/n)...” said a desperate voice.

“Kanato,” she said, then opening her eyes. “Thank you.”

“Did you know how scary that was for me?” screeched Kanato suddenly. “How you almost died! I knew I shouldn't have let you go to class alone!”

She cringed and apologized silently.

“Stop apologizing!” he yelled. “Don't you know about how much you matter to me?”

“W-what?” asked (y/n). Kanato’s eyes softened ever so slightly and (y/n) realized that Teddy was nowhere to be seen.

“You heard me,” said Kanato, less angrily this time. “You matter to me, much more than just a prospective bride.”

She blushed and he helped her to her feet.

“What happened to the man?” she asked.

He giggled. “I threw him away,” he said, sounding rather pleased with himself.

And for the first time in a while, (y/n) smiled.

“(Y/n),” said Kanato, hand gently taking hers. “Is this what you humans call ’love’?”

Before she could answer, however, he pressed his ice-cold lips to hers in a sweet kiss. It wasn't like the ones he gave the previous brides- those were fake, in a way. This one was real, and full of...

Full of sweet, sweet, love.

When they parted, she gave a small nod in confirmation to his question.

“Love,” he said, as if the word were new to him. “I like it.”

He giggled and kissed her again.

“(Y/n),” he said afterwards, giving the eerie smile that she now loved. “You know what this means, right? Nobody can touch you, no one can have you. You're mine.”

(Y/n) laughed softly.

“Fair enough,” she said.

Story was really awesome I loved it !!!

It gave a clear description of what was going on and how the characters and reader felt which I thought was cool.

This story also gave us a clear picture of what was happening.

If it had more chapters to it that would be cool but I don't mind how ithe story is now.

Lastly kanato is quite hard to include in a story in my opinion but his personality and character was displayed really well.
I hope people can agree with me on this .

Well I hope you liked this!!!
